Uniportal robotic
thoracic surgery
Uniportal robotic thoracic surgery is a new technique in the field of minimally invasive thoracic surgery initiated in september 2021 and developed since by the pioneer thoracic surgeon Dr. Diego Gonzalez Rivas
About URATS
In our robotic center in Bucharest, at Monza Oncology Hospital , the team – Dr. Diego Gonzalez Rivas, Dr. Liviu Mugurel Bosinceanu and Dr. Veronica Manolache started to operate with this new technique in december 2021 – being the second center in the world to perform full robotic uniportal approach for thoracic malignancies. Visionary and master surgeon, Dr. Diego Gonzalez Rivas is the pioneer of uniportal VATS (from 2010), a minimal invasive approach which became the standard of surgical care around the world for surgical treatment of lung cancer.
One single incision and the most evolved robotic platform daVinci Xi.
A team of experts
Always preoccupied with advancing our surgical performance, naturally our expert team joined Dr. Gonzalez to evolve our robotic practice to U-RATS (uniportal robotic assisted thoracic surgery) offering this game changer technique to our patients- one single incision and the most evolved robotic platform daVinci Xi.
This surgical technique implies only one 3 to 4 cm incision in the VI th intercostal space in the mid axillary line. Through this single incision 3 robotic arms are docked allowing for excellent maneuverability of instruments and wide camera view and thus we can perform any type of anatomical lung resection, parietal or mediastinal, addressing most of thoracic lesions.

Patients advantages
Fast recovery- thus fast reinsertion in social and profesional life
Short length of stay in the hospital (and less than 12 hours in the ICU ward)
One single skin incision with the best cosmetic appearance
No pain after removal of chest drain
Minimal blood loss
Highest rate of lymphadenectomy and lymph node sampling
Fast track to oncology treatment after surgery
